As one of the many initiatives Rainbow Foods pursues in its' efforts to being a responsible corporate citizen, the store recently underwent a Green Certification by Ottawa-based Greenvolution. Greenvolution's focus is to assist businesses lower their ecological footprint by auditing their operations and recommending green alternatives. Rainbow Foods is the first health food store in Canada to be Green Business certified, through the standards set by the Green Business League.
Rainbow Foods' 45 day long assessment looked at Air Quality, Energy Usage, Recycling Practices and Water Savings. The audit identified a number of green practices that Rainbow Foods had already incorporated, and provided recommendations for further improvements. Rainbow Foods also followed up on recommendations regarding
materials and equipment to be used in the green renovation that Rainbow Foods is currently undergoing. Rainbow Foods owners are committed to working to achieve improvements wherever feasible.
Greenvolution's program educates and trains companies on green practices that will create healthier and more environmentally friendly businesses. Greenvolution sets a standard of performance that can be measured, audited and certified, and is available to assist with further improvements.
